My messages aren't sending

A message stuck on Sending… or marked Not sent in TACENZA Chat. Check your connection, then work through key changes, group settings, limits and file sizes.

Most often it’s the connection. If you see Offline – reconnecting…, Chat is waiting for the network and reconnects by itself. Once it’s back, open the message marked Not sent and choose Retry, or Discard to drop it.

If you’re online and it still fails, look at the message Chat shows and find it below.

  1. A banner says someone’s key has changed. The chat is locked until you check the safety number. See Someone’s safety number changed.
  2. “Only admins can send messages in this group.” or “Only some roles can post in this channel.” The group’s admins decide who can post where. Ask them if you think you should be able to.
  3. “Slow mode is on. Wait … s.” The group allows each member one message every so often. Wait and send again.
  4. “You’re timed out in this group…” A moderator has timed you out. You can still read until it ends.
  5. “You’re banned from this group.” You can’t post there any more.
  6. “Finish the group’s welcome steps first.” New members of some groups complete a short welcome before they can post.
  7. “You’ve joined. Messages open as soon as a member who’s online shares the group’s keys with you.” Wait until a member comes online.
  8. “Too many attempts. Try again in … s.” You’ve sent a lot in a short time. See It says “Too many attempts”.
  9. “Files can be up to … MB on your plan.” The attachment is too large for your plan: 25 MB on Free, 100 MB on Plus and 500 MB on Pro.
  10. “Your storage is full…” Your files are safe, but new uploads are paused. Delete messages with attachments, or move to a larger plan in Settings › Plan.
  11. “Only admins can send photos and files in this group.” Text still works; attachments are limited by the group.

The other person doesn’t see my messages

If your message shows as sent, it reached TACENZA. Some reasons the other person might not see it:

  • They haven’t accepted your message request. If they use message requests, your first messages wait in a separate folder until they accept.
  • They’ve blocked you. Blocking happens on their device, so TACENZA doesn’t know about it and can’t tell you.
  • Disappearing messages removed it after the time set for the chat.
