TACENZA Chat won't load
A blank page, endless loading or Offline – reconnecting… in TACENZA Chat. Check the status page, your connection and your browser, step by step.
First, check the status page. If something is wrong on our side, it’s shown there, and there’s nothing you need to do but wait.
If everything is running, work through these steps.
- Check the address. TACENZA Chat is at chat.tacenza.app.
- Check your connection. “Offline – reconnecting…” means Chat has lost the network and is trying again by itself. “You’re offline.” means your device has no connection at all. Try another site, or switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data.
- Reload the page. A reload logs you out unless Stay signed in on this device is on, so have your password ready.
- Update your browser. Chat works best in an up-to-date browser. If it still won’t load, try a different one.
- Try without extensions. Ad blockers and privacy extensions can stop parts of the app from loading. Open Chat in a private window, where most extensions are off, to test.
- Check your network. Some school, office or public networks block sites or websockets. Try another network.
- “This account uses Argon2id, which couldn’t load.” Part of the app didn’t download when you tried to log in. Check your connection and reload.
- “Tacenza is very busy right now.” The service is under heavy load. Wait the time shown and try again.
Clearing your browser’s data for Chat can help, but it also removes Stay signed in and your search index on that device, and the browser then counts as a new device. If you’re at your plan’s device limit, you’ll need to sign one out when you log in. See I’ve reached my device limit.
If it loads but feels broken
- A chat says “This chat isn’t here”. It may have been deleted, or you’re no longer a member.
- A protected chat shows “Open this chat in the desktop app”. That chat can only be read in the desktop app. See Using the desktop app.
- Some older messages can’t be read. Messages from before you joined a group can’t be decrypted by you.
Using the desktop app?
The desktop app loads chat.tacenza.app inside its own window, so the same steps apply. Also make sure it’s up to date: it updates itself and asks you to restart.
Still stuck?
