Someone is spamming my group

Start by removing the person and their messages. Moderation happens in the group – TACENZA can’t read group messages, so the group’s own admins and moderators are the ones who can act.

Deal with the person

1. Open Manage group › Members, find them and choose Manage.
2. Pick what fits:
   • Time out – they can still read, but can’t post for 1 minute up to 1 week.
   • Remove – they’re out, but can come back with an invite link.
   • Ban – they’re removed and can’t come back until unbanned.
   • Warn – sends them a private, encrypted warning. The group only sees that someone was warned.
3. To clean up, open a message’s options and choose Delete (moderator). Choose Select to delete several at once.

You can only act on members ranked below your own highest role. Bans and timeouts are listed under Manage group › Moderation, where you can Unban or End timeout.

Slow things down

In Manage group › Settings:

• Slow mode – how often each member can send a message, from 10 seconds to 1 hour. Members allowed to delete others’ messages aren’t limited.
• What members can do – for example, turn off sending photos and files, or adding members, until things calm down.
• Onboarding – new members must accept the group’s rules before they can post.

Close the door

In Manage group › Invite links:

1. Revoke any link that’s been shared too widely. It stops working immediately.
2. Make a new link with Admins approve new members, a short expiry, or a limited number of uses.

If the group is listed in Discover, remove the listing under Manage group › Directory with Remove from Discover while you sort things out. Other invite links keep working.

Share the work

In Manage group › Roles, make a role from the Moderator template and give it to members you trust. Members can Report a message to the group’s moderators from its options; the report goes to them, encrypted, and never to TACENZA.
