How do I delete my account?
Delete your TACENZA Chat account in Settings › Account. What's removed, what happens to a paid plan, and what to do if deletion fails.
Go to Settings › Account, choose Delete account, and confirm. Your account is deleted straight away.
Warning
Deleting can’t be undone – nobody can undo it, including us. Your keys and 1:1 chats are deleted, and you leave every group. Save anything you want to keep first.
What happens
- Your account and keys are deleted, so nobody can open the account again.
- 1:1 chats are deleted, with their messages.
- Groups: you leave every group you’re in. If you own a group, hand it over or delete it first if you want to decide what happens to it.
- A paid plan ends at once. TACENZA deletes your customer record at Stripe, our payment provider, before your account, so you won’t be charged again.
- Invoice records (amounts, dates and plan) are kept for bookkeeping, but are no longer linked to any account.
Your TACENZA Mail account, if you have one, is separate and isn’t affected.
If deletion fails
- “Tacenza is very busy right now. Try again in … s.” If you have a paid plan and Stripe can’t be reached, deletion is refused rather than leaving a subscription running. Wait and try again.
- “Too many attempts.” Wait the time shown before trying again.
- “Your session ended. Log in again.” Log in and start again.
Before you delete
- If you have a question about a payment, ask us before you delete. Afterwards your invoices are no longer linked to an account, so we can’t find them for you.
- If you only want a break, you don’t need to delete. Just log out. An account nobody logs in to for 6 months is deleted automatically.
- If you’ve lost your password and recovery key, you can’t delete the account yourself, because you can’t open it. It will be deleted after 6 months without a login.
